September will usher in a new academic year for the Clinical Neuropsychology Residency Program at Barrow Neurological Institute. To celebrate our 2022 graduates, we asked them to reflect on their most memorable moments at Barrow, the advice they would give to their younger selves, and who influenced them the most during their training. We’ve compiled their responses below.

This graduating class has demonstrated exceptional maturity, fortitude, and flexibility in the face of unprecedented challenges. I am proud of each graduating resident and know that they all have tremendous careers ahead of them. I hope that the knowledge gained and friendships made while at Barrow help guide them in their bright futures.

Brittany Cerbone, PhD

New role: Assistant Professor of Neuropsychology, UT Health San Antonio, Department of Neurology, San Antonio, Texas

  1. My most memorable moments at Barrow were administering neuropsychological tests to epilepsy patients during Wada procedures.
  2. The advice I would give to my younger self on my first day at Barrow would be to enjoy every moment because it will go by quickly.
  3. All of the neuropsychologists at Barrow are amazing and have taught me so much. I am grateful to have been part of this excellent training program because I know that the staff has prepared me well for the next steps in my career.

Joseph Murthy, PsyD

New role: Neuropsychologist, Center for Transitional Neuro-Rehabilitation (CTN), Barrow Neurological Institute, Phoenix, Arizona

  1. My most memorable moment at Barrow was participating in my first cake day at CTN.
  2. The advice I would give to my younger self on my first day at Barrow would be that coffee is your friend.
  3. There have been so many influential supervisors during my training here at Barrow! I want to give a special “thank you” to Dr. Pamela Klonoff, who has been a tremendous mentor and role model.

  1. My most memorable moments are Barrow included seeing a variety of complex/fascinating cases and getting to learn from amazing mentors.
  2. The advice I would give to my younger self on my first day at Barrow would be to enjoy and take advantage of every opportunity, as the years go by fast!
  3. All of the neuropsychology faculty have influenced me in different ways. The training has been exceptional, and I’m grateful to have learned from some of the best in the field.
