Amy Van Dyken-Rouen Reaches New Milestone in Neuro-Rehab

Six-time Olympic gold medalist Amy Van Dyken-Rouen has reached a new milestone in her neuro-rehabilitation at Barrow.

The swimmer severed her spinal cord in an all-terrain vehicle accident in June 2014, which left her paralyzed from the waist down.

She posted a video on Instagram this week that shows her walking without the support of braces around her core.

“We took off the top part of my braces,” she wrote. “Using my core, which was mostly paralyzed in my accident, I walked. This is a huge step in my recovery.”
