Dr. Javier Cárdenas Discusses Advancements in Concussion Telemedicine

A two-year study that used a sideline robot to monitor Northern Arizona University football players suggests that remote concussion evaluations are safe and effective for providing fast and accurate assessments of athletes. But the sideline robot has a price tag of nearly $7,000 — a costly option for evaluating high school athletes.

In hopes of bringing sideline evaluations to every Arizona high school, Dr. Javier Cárdenas and his team at the Barrow Concussion and Brain Injury Center in Phoenix have developed concussion software for smartphones. He discussed these advancements in concussion telemedicine in an interview with KJZZ.
