Namesake of Ali Center Rescues Suicidal Man
Muhammad Ali, a boxing legend and the namesake of Barrow’s Parkinson Center in Phoenix, saved a suicidal man from jumping off a ninth-floor window ledge in Los Angeles on Jan. 19, 1981.
According to a CBS News report, Ali happened to be in the area and volunteered to talk to the man. Ali yelled to the man from a window, “I’m your brother. I want to help you.”
The man opened the fire escape door, and Ali spoke with him on the ledge, convincing him to go back inside the building. The man was taken to a hospital.
