About Our Residency Program
Barrow Physical Therapy Neurologic Residency is a 12-month program providing residents with a variety of clinical and didactic experiences across the Barrow rehabilitation services continuum. Our mission is to develop highly skilled physical therapists who utilize evidence-based practice and innovative technology to enhance the quality of care for patients with neurological deficits.
Barrow Neurological Institute at Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center is an internationally renowned medical center that offers care for people from throughout the world with brain and spine diseases, disorders, and injuries. Barrow is one of the busiest neurosurgical centers in the United States. U.S. News & World Report routinely lists Barrow as one of the best hospitals in the nation for rehabilitation.
Our rehabilitation continuum has received multiple accreditations supporting our core value to deliver excellence in the care of individuals with neurological conditions. The inpatient and outpatient neuro-rehabilitation settings have received CARF (Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) accreditation in stroke specialties and for their comprehensive programs. Our outpatient brain injury vocational services and home and community services are also accredited through CARF. St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center has also received Joint Commission accreditation for the Petznick Stroke Center.
Residents will engage in all aspects of client management in a variety of clinical settings. They will be immersed in an interdisciplinary environment with mentoring clinicians who practice at the peak of excellence and embody the organization’s core values of dignity, collaboration, justice, stewardship, and excellence through clinical practice and research. The combination of receiving mentored clinical experience, working within a dynamic interdisciplinary team, and learning on-site will ensure the development of autonomous, advanced clinicians of neurological physical therapy, optimized patient outcomes and experiences for neurological patients, and readiness for the Neurologic Board Certification Exam.
