Barrow Brainbook

About Brainbook

Brainbook was launched by Barrow Neurological Institute on August 18, 2011, as the most comprehensive concussion education effort in the State of Arizona. In one year, we provided comprehensive concussion education to 150,000 high school athletes via Brainbook—a web-based learning tool developed specifically for high school athletes. Brainbook provides information to student athletes on how to prevent, recognize, and respond to concussions.

The Brainbook initiative is vital to stemming the tide of concussions in youth sports. This goal has become even more urgent as research increasingly shows that excessive or improperly treated concussions can cause long-term damage that can disrupt life and learning. This module is based on the content and instructional design approach used by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The response to Brainbook has been phenomenal. On the day it was released, Brainbook received over 260 instances of news coverage in 30 U.S. states and 10 countries. National coverage continues to this day, with inquiries from multiple states regarding implementation.
