Project: ATP7A- A rare mutation in the ATP7A copper transport protein  has been found in a patients with ALS-like symptoms. Using patient hIPS cells, we are attempting to characterize the effects of this mutation on ATP7A’s localization, its affinity for binding partners, and its function as a copper transporter. If this mutation is associated with a detrimental effect, we will test the efficacy of a drug that may improve copper distribution.
