  • John Heffernan, MS

    PhD Student

John Heffernan received his BS and MS in biomedical engineering from Drexel University. While at Drexel, he gained experience in orthopedic medical device research, specifically in evaluating the mechanical performance of ceramic materials used in artificial hips. He joined the Sirianni Laboratory in 2012, and is currently a PhD student in Biomedical Engineering at Arizona State University, where he works collaboratively with Dr. Brent Vernon’s Laboratory for Bio-inspired Materials.

John’s research at Barrow is focused on developing novel biomaterials and tissue engineering techniques to be implemented as improved in vitro GBM brain tumor models. John is interested in using these models to analyze patient derived GBM tissue and thereby uncover new opportunities for personalized medicine.
