She earned her doctorate degree in medical dentistry (DMD) from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Beals is affiliated with several national and local professional organizations. She is a member of the American Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Association, the American Association of Orthodontists and the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists.

In an effort to further the field of craniofacial orthodontics, Dr. Beals is actively involved in research and sharing her knowledge with colleagues. Her research interests include midface growth of children born with orofacial clefts, facial distraction of children with craniofacial differences and nasoalveolar molding - a presurgical technique available to infants born with severe clefts of the lip and palate. She lectures nationally and internationally on these topics as well as on the oral manifestations of craniofacial disorders and the orthodontic management of children with craniofacial conditions.

Dr. Beals has authored several peer-reviewed original papers on topics including maxillary expansion, mandibular dimensions in children with obstructive sleep apnea, treatment-related factors of external apical root resorption, recurrent intraoral pyogenic granuloma with satellitosis treated with corticosteroids, and mid-face growth in patients with EEC Syndrome.

Outside her practice, Dr. Beals loves gardening and traveling. She returns home to Philadelphia to visit her grown sons every opportunity she gets.
