Phoenix Woman Says Mobile Stroke Unit Saved Her Life
Phoenix woman LaVon Medina credits the Barrow Emergency Stroke Treatment Unit with saving her life on Thanksgiving.
Medina was preparing dinner in her kitchen when she had a stroke. Her daughter called 911, and both the Phoenix Fire Department and mobile stroke unit responded.
Medina was diagnosed with an ischemic stroke and treated with the clot-busting drug tPA within 20 minutes of the 911 call. The next morning, she was released to a rehabilitation center with minor impairment.
