    Caregiver Corner

    Although caring for someone you love can be very rewarding, it also can be a tough and demanding role, compounded further by limited information and resources. The following courses are designed to provide useful information and interactive exercises and tools targeted toward your wellbeing as a caregiver.

    The following classes have been scheduled sequentially at each location listed below so that caregivers may participate in one or all of the classes:

    Powerful Tools for Caregivers
    This 6-week program provides information to improve care giving ability, promote self-care and increase self confidence. This series will help you improve your communication skills, reduce your stress and also hep you work through difficult emotions such as guilt, anger and depression.

    Caring For You, Caring For Me
    Developed by the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregiving this educational and supportive program is for people who are caring for individuals with a disability. The 5-week program includes topics such as how to take care of yourself, build cooperative relationships, prevent and solve issues and problems, and access and develop resources to help fulfill your caregiver role.

    Caregiver Workshop
    November is National Caregiver Month and provides an opportunity to honor those who care for a loved one. please join us for a workshop to hear from experts in the filed, enjoy a relaxing lunch with time to talk with other carepartners and participate in activities designed to rejuvenate and energize.

    Caregiver Boot Camp
    If you are caring for someone with Parkinson’s disease, or are planning to provide care for someone in the future, this half-day workshop is highly recommended. Both the Parkinson’s disease patient and their caregiver are welcome to attend this program. Topics include:

    • chair or wheelchair transfers, tub and toilet transfers, car transfers
    • ambulation
    • swallowing
    • adaptive equipment for mobility, feeding, showering and bathing, etc.
    • community resources
    • recognizing  burnout
    • taking care of the caregiver
