Respite Care Study

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to determine if regular participation in an adult day health respite program may be beneficial for those living with advanced Parkinson’s disease and have a positive impact on the quality of life on the caregiver of a person living with advanced Parkinson’s disease. The study provides patients up to 12 weeks of free respite care (2 days per week) in adult day health centers across the valley with a 6-week screening prior and assessments at baseline, 1 month, and 3 month.

Who Can Participate

Patients who satisfy the requirements listed below are eligible to participate:

  • Male and female patients
  • Part of MAPC Legacy Care
  • Have advanced Parkinson’s disease (PD) or Parkinson’s Plus (homebound/dependent on ADLs)
  • Still residing at home
  • Receiving <12 hours of professional caregiving
  • Not in hospice

Visits

This study requires 2 visits per week (4-hour visits) at the day health center for up to 12 weeks.
