Arnau Benet, MD
Neurosurgery
Arnau Benet, MD, is an adjunct professor of global neurosurgery at Barrow Neurological Institute. He is also the founder, president, and CEO of California Neurosurgical Specialists and the director of vascular neurosurgery at Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center in Thousand Oaks, California.
Dr. Benet specializes in vascular neurosurgery and skull base surgery, which includes the treatment of blood vessel malformations and tumors of both the brain and spine. He is an associate member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and an adjunct member of the Cerebrovascular Section of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons.
Dr. Benet earned both his medical degree and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Barcelona in Spain. He completed his neurosurgery residency at Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Arizona. He also completed a short enfolded clinical fellowship in skull base and cerebrovascular surgery at the Institute of Neurosurgery (INCA) in Santiago, Chile and a full enfolded clinical fellowship in advanced cerebrobvascular surgery at Teishinkai Hospital in Sapporo, Japan. Additionally, Dr. Benet completed a research fellowship in minimally invasive skull base surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pennsylvania.
While on faculty at the University of California-San Francisco (UCSF) as an assistant professor in both the neurosurgery and ENT departments, Dr. Benet founded and led the Skull Base and Cerebrovascular Laboratory. As laboratory director, he mentored international research fellows and gave lectures on operative neurosurgery to broader international audiences. His current research interests and global projects build upon the work he performed at both UCSF and Barrow. As an adjunct professor with Barrow Global, Dr. Benet is dedicated to improving neurosurgical education and operative mastery in underserved areas in both Latin America and Indonesia. He serves as core faculty within Indonesia’s government-led efforts to advance aneurysm and stroke care. Dr. Benet has published more than 250 peer-reviewed publications and 20 book chapters.
