Department of Neuroanesthesiology

Our Mission

The Department of Neuroanesthesiology at Barrow Neurological Institute provides comprehensive perioperative care for patients undergoing advanced neurosurgical and ENT procedures. As part of one of the largest and most renowned neurosurgical centers in the world, our staff is dedicated to the highest standards of patient care throughout the operative process. Our neuroanesthesiologists emphasize a team approach to perioperative care, working with neurosurgeons, otolaryngologists, operating room nurses, intraoperative neuromonitoring technologists, neuroradiologists, and neurocritical care physicians.

Department Highlights

  • Prior to surgery, our neuroanesthesiologists work with hospitalists in a comprehensive, collaborative perioperative consultation to discuss each patient’s unique medical needs.
  • Our Department of Neuroanesthesiology currently performs more neurosurgical anesthetics than any other institution in the United States, developing experience with the intricacies of specialized anesthesia for brain and spine operative procedures.
  • Our neuroanesthesiologists provide education to medical students from Creighton University Medical School, exposing future health care professionals to the neurosciences and the neuroanesthesia subspecialty.
  • Our Department is committed to cultivating the next generation of neuroanesthesiologists, demonstrated by the neuroanesthesia training we provide for anesthesiology residents at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and University of Arizona College of Medicine.
