Richard Foster, MS, RVS, RVT, RDMS

Neurosonology Supervisor

Richard Foster is a neurosonologist in the Petznick Stroke Center at Barrow Neurological Institute. He holds registered vascular specialist credentials from Cardiovascular Credentialing International and registered vascular technologist and diagnostic medical sonographer credentials from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.

Mr. Foster’s expertise includes vascular testing, with an emphasis on cerebrovascular circulation. He has worked in various areas of ultrasound and neuroimaging throughout his career and has managed multiple hospital-based and independent vascular testing centers. He is a member of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers, and the Society of Vascular Ultrasound.

Mr. Foster earned his bachelor’s degree in microbiology and his master’s degree in physics from the University of Washington in Seattle. Additionally, he completed an associate’s degree in diagnostic ultrasound at Bellevue Community College in Washington. He did his clinical internship in the cerebrovascular laboratories at Harborview Medical Center and Spencer Vascular Diagnostic Services in Seattle, institutions with internationally renowned Doppler ultrasonography and stroke prevention programs.

Mr. Foster has participated in multiple national and international research studies in cerebrovascular stenting, peripheral arterial stenting, migraines, patent foramen ovale, and sickle cell disease.
