Takuma Maeda, MD, PhD

Postdoctoral Fellow

Takuma Maeda, MD, PhD, is a postdoctoral fellow in the Barrow Aneurysm and AVM Research Center at Barrow Neurological Institute.

Dr. Maeda’s expertise lies in aneurysms and other neurovascular disorders. He serves on the Stroke Council for the American Heart Association and is a member of the American Stroke Association, the Japan Neurosurgical Society, and the Society for Redox Biology and Medicine.

Dr. Maeda earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Sapporo Medical University in Japan and his Doctor of Philosophy degree from Saitama Medical University, also located in Japan. Before shifting his focus to research, Dr. Maeda completed residency training in neurosurgery and neuroendovascular surgery at Saitama Medical University International Medical Center. There, he began his professional career as a neurosurgeon, primarily treating patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage using both open microneurosurgical and minimally invasive endovascular techniques.

Dr. Maeda’s research at Barrow focuses on intracranial aneurysms. His long-term goal is to develop pharmacological interventions to prevent intracranial aneurysm rupture and improve outcomes for patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage.
