Clinical Neuropsychology Services

Outpatient Neuropsychology Clinic

The outpatient neuropsychology clinic sees both children and adults with known or suspected neurological conditions to help document the nature and extent of their neuropsychological impairments. This information is used for diagnosis and treatment planning.

People with almost any neurological condition are evaluated when there is a question of disturbances in the higher integrative brain functions. We frequently evaluate people to help determine whether they have a psychiatric or neurological condition.

Patients and families are also seen for psychotherapy to help with the adjustment process associated with a neurological disorder.

Epilepsy Monitoring Unit

People admitted to our epilepsy monitoring unit undergo neuropsychological assessment to determine patterns of brain function or dysfunction that help determine which side of the brain is being affected during seizures.

Our specialists also participate in the Wada procedure. Patients who are suspected to have nonepileptic seizure-like events are also evaluated. As in other clinical settings, neuropsychologists on the epilepsy monitoring unit are actively involved in a variety of clinical research studies to improve the treatment of patients with epilepsy.

Inpatient Neurorehabilitation Unit

Neuropsychologists routinely evaluate the cognitive and behavioral status of people staying in the inpatient neurorehabilitation center. The neuropsychologists work with other rehabilitation team members to clarify rehabilitation goals and to help patients engage in the rehabilitation process to maximize their recovery.

Our staff is involved in both cognitive rehabilitation and psychotherapy for patients seen on that unit. Neuropsychologists also help educate patients and family members about the expected effects of their neurological condition on cognition and behavioral functioning.
