Joji Kurian Thomas, PhD, MSc

Joji Kurian Thomas, PhD, MSc, is a research professor in the Department of Translational Neuroscience at Barrow Neurological Institute.

As a bioinformatics specialist, Dr. Thomas is experienced in different pipelines for next-generation sequencing data analysis, statistical studies, machine learning, and the integration and analysis of different genomic data together with database development.

Dr. Thomas earned his doctorate degree in bioinformatics from the Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Technology, which is part of the Amrita School of Biotechnology in Kerala, India. He also holds a master’s degree in bioinformatics from Bharathiar University in Tamil Nadu, India.

At Barrow, Dr. Thomas uses high-throughput sequencing technologies—including single-cell RNA sequencing, bulk RNA sequencing, and proteomics—to identify and predict biomarkers of neurodegenerative diseases.
