Attorney’s Donation Sparks Unique Barrow-ASU Partnership

A donation from a Scottsdale attorney has led to a unique partnership between Barrow and Arizona State University’s Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law.

Steven Lisa’s father is being treated at Barrow for glioblastoma, the deadliest form of brain cancer. To show his gratitude to the institute and his admiration of its residents, Lisa established a multi-year grant to support the residents’ research.

Among other projects, the Lisa Family Foundation Innovation Grant funded a new prototyping lab where Barrow residents work to design new medical devices.

However, as a patent attorney, Lisa considered the challenges of bringing a new device to market. In an effort to streamline this process, he helped establish a partnership that allows ASU law students and faculty to act as legal counsel for Barrow for the purposes of drafting provisional patent applications.
