Barrow Spine Surgeons Discuss Back Problems in Golfers
After seeing many golfers in their clinic, spine surgeons at Barrow Neurological Institute submitted an article to the Journal of Neurosurgery: Spine discussing the biomechanics of the modern golf swing and the impact on the lumbar spine.
In the newly published article, spine surgeons Dr. Juan Uribe and Dr. Randall Porter and PGY-5 neurosurgery resident Dr. Corey Walker explained that modern golf swings can cause repeated trauma to the lower back. They’ve termed this pathology “repetitive traumatic discopathy” and say it may lead to early lumbar degeneration in modern-era golfers.
