With Wonderful Help, Barrow Educates Children on Craniofacial Disorders
On Monday, December 12, 2022, Barrow Neurological Institute will transition its Cleft and Craniofacial Center to Phoenix Children’s. Your providers will stay the same, and so will the location. Only the name is changing. We look forward to seeing you at the Phoenix Children’s Center for Cleft and Craniofacial Care.
The Barrow Cleft and Craniofacial Center is teaching children about craniofacial disorders with help from a longtime patient and a bestselling novel.
Sarah Woolworth, now 20 years old, has been a patient at the center for most of her life. She was born with Treacher Collins syndrome, which affects the development of bones and other tissues in the face.
She recently shared her story in a presentation to fifth graders at Madison Elementary School in Phoenix.
The students were assigned to read the book “Wonder” by R.J. Palacio, which tells the story of a boy with a craniofacial syndrome who enters public school for the first time in fifth grade.
