Headache Medicine Fellowship

About Our Fellowship

Barrow Neurological Institute at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center offers a 1-year United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties-accredited clinical fellowship. Fellows will learn the evaluation of adult and pediatric headache syndromes, gain experience in acute and long-term TBI management, and work in teams with neuroradiology, neurosurgery, neuro-ophthalmology, and other subspecialties.

Fellows will have protected research time with opportunities to participate in clinical trials, investigator-driven research, and multi-disciplinary projects.

Eligibility

  • A current valid and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the United States or Canada or its territories
  • Must be a graduate of a residency program in neurology or other specialties accredited by the ACGME, RCPSC, or CanERA
  • Must be board certified or eligible for certification by the ABMS, RCPSC, AOA, or CFPC 
  • Completion of USMLE steps I, II, and III

Foreign medical graduates with equivalent qualifications are also eligible to apply provided the following criteria are met:

  • Graduate status from an ACGME accredited residency program
  • Completion of all three of the USMLE examinations
  • Completion of a CSA exam
  • ECFMG certificate (if applicable) – Foreign applicants must have ECFMG certification. We only accept J1 visa; we do not sponsor H1 visa.

How to Apply

We are not participating in ERAS. Our program does participate in the match for headache medicine.  All applicants should register for the Headache Medicine Match with the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).

Program applicants can be in the field of neurology, pediatric neurology, internal medicine, family medicine, emergency medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, or psychiatry.

Important Dates for the July 1, 2025 Start Date

  • Application season begins: March 1, 2024
  • Match Opens for Registration: May 22, 2024
  • Match Day: August 7, 2024
