Piyanat Wangsawatwong, MD, is a spinal biomechanics research fellow at Barrow Neurological Institute. He earned his medical degree from Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand and completed his neurological surgery residency at the same institution.
After practicing as neurosurgeon at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, Bangkok, for two years he received a research scholarship to complete his spinal biomechanics fellowship at Barrow Neurological Institute.
He chose a fellowship in spinal biomechanics because he feels that understanding most areas of spine surgery means understanding basic biomechanics of the spine. Advancements in spinal trauma, surgical procedures, and new treatment technologies have been generated from biomechanics studies. This knowledge leads to new and better treatments for patients.
