A 40-Year Retrospective of Holistic Milieu Therapy
Course Goal
The 2026 Center for Transitional Neuro-Rehabilitation (CTN) Symposium aims to describe the fundamentals and evolution of principles, innovations, and efficacy of research in a holistic milieu neurorehabilitation program, to improve community reintegration and long-term outcomes for patients and their families after acquired brain injuries.
Course Learning Objectives
- Identify three fundamental principles of holistic milieu neurorehabilitation at CTN and their evolution for patients and their support networks to optimize community reintegration in the home and community, including driving, work, and school.
- Discuss eight standard and upgraded approaches in multidisciplinary assessment and treatment approaches at CTN in Speech Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Occupational Therapy related to patients’ strengths and challenges and their relationship to community reintegration.
- Examine five interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary interventions, including forms of Psychotherapy, compensation training, and technology, with case study examples, to enhance patients’ independence and productivity.
- Synthesize past, current, and future research studies demonstrating the efficacy of holistic milieu therapy in patients, including enhancing functionality and adjustment in the patients and their support networks.

- To obtain CEUs from this symposium, you must sign in and sign out and be in attendance throughout the agenda to receive full CEUs. This course is not eligible for partial credit, and you must attend the course in its entirety to receive CEUs.
- Completion of the online post course evaluation is required to receive CEUs. SLPs must complete the post course evaluation and select their discipline in order to provide their ASHA number and give consent for CEUs to be submitted to ASHA on their behalf.
