Charuta Furey, MD, is a neurosurgeon in the Department of Neurosurgery at Barrow Neurological Institute specializing in the treatment of primary and metastatic brain tumors. Dr. Furey earned her bachelor’s degree from Harvard College before receiving her medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine. She completed her neurosurgical residency at Barrow Neurological Institute, followed by fellowship training in neurosurgical oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center.
As assistant professor of neurosurgery and principal investigator at the Ivy Brain Tumor Center, Dr. Furey leads translational research focused on first-in-human, early-phase clinical trials evaluating novel therapies for patients with malignant brain tumors. Her research is dedicated to accelerating the translation of promising laboratory discoveries into new treatments for patients with gliomas and other aggressive brain tumors. Complementing these efforts, the Furey Laboratory investigates liquid biopsy technologies that analyze circulating tumor DNA and other biomarkers in cerebrospinal fluid to monitor treatment response and tumor evolution over time. By integrating innovative clinical trials with genomic profiling, single-cell sequencing, and molecular analyses, her research aims to better understand therapeutic resistance, guide precision treatment strategies, and improve outcomes for patients with brain tumors.
