Gail Rosseau, MD

Gail Rosseau, MD, is an adjunct professor of global neurosurgery at Barrow Neurological Institute and a clinical professor of neurosurgery at George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Washington, D.C. She is board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery.

Dr. Rosseau’s areas of expertise include pituitary and skull base surgery, microvascular compression syndromes, and stereotactic radiosurgery. Her clinical practice currently is focused on veterans, particularly in the area of traumatic brain injury. Dr. Rosseau is on the executive board of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies Foundation and is vice chair of the Global Alliance for Surgical, Obstetrics, Trauma, and Anesthesia (G4 Alliance). She has long served on the board of directors of the Foundation for International Education in Neurosurgery and of ThinkFirst, the International Head and Spine Injury Prevention Program. She has also been elected to leadership positions in the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Societe de Neurochirurgie de Langue Francaise. She is on the advisory board of the National Churchill Leadership Center and is a lifetime board member of Interfaith America.

Dr. Rosseau earned her medical degree from George Washington University, where she also completed her neurosurgery residency. She completed a fellowship in cranial base surgery at HIA du Val-de-Grace in Paris, France, and a fellowship in cranial base surgery and microvascular surgery at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Presbyterian in Pennsylvania. 

Dr. Rosseau has been involved in global neurosurgery throughout her career and is a leader in the global surgery movement. She has authored over 150 peer-reviewed publications and has been a visiting professor at over 20 universities. She is Global Champions editor for World Neurosurgery and editor for the Global Neurosurgery section of the journal Neurosurgery. Dr. Rosseau is co-principal investigator on two National Institutes of Health grants, which are focused on establishing traumatic brain injury registries in Zambia. Additionally, she is principal investigator on a George Washington Equity Institute grant to study surgical training in Africa. She is co-founder of the Global Alliance for the Prevention of Spina Bifida-F, which is working with the member states of the World Health Organization to eliminate spina bifida.
