Hiroki Sato, MD, PhD

Research Associate Professor Cerebrovascular Disorders

Hiroki Sato, MD, PhD, is a research associate professor in the Barrow Aneurysm and AVM Research Center and the Department of Translational Neuroscience at Barrow Neurological Institute.

Dr. Sato’s expertise lies in aneurysms and other cerebrovascular disorders. He is a member of the American Heart Association and several Japanese medical societies, including the Japanese Society for Neurosurgery, the Japan Stroke Society, the Japanese Society on Surgery for Cerebral Stroke, and the Japanese Society for Neuroendovascular Therapy.

Dr. Sato earned both his medical degree and PhD in medicine from Saitama Medical University in Japan. He completed a neurosurgery residency in the Department of Cerebrovascular Surgery at Saitama Medical University International Medical Center in Hidaka, Japan. He also completed postdoctoral fellowships at the University of California, San Francisco and at Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Arizona.

Dr. Sato’s research focuses on developing pharmacological treatments for intracranial aneurysms, particularly identifying and evaluating candidate therapeutic targets. He is currently exploring broad, disease-relevant pathways, including aging-related mechanisms, cell death, oxidative stress, and inflammation.
