Newsweek Names Barrow a Top Hospital in US for Neurologic Care

Newsweek has named Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Arizona one of “America’s Best Hospitals for Neurological Care” for 2025. The No. 21 ranking recognizes the Institute’s dedication to providing top-tier care for neurological conditions, specifically noting its expertise in epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, neurological infections, brain tumor surgery, and spinal fusion surgery.

The media organization partnered with the global data firm Statista, Inc. to compile the second annual list, which has expanded from 175 to 200 hospitals. They conducted a survey of tens of thousands of medical professionals and hospital managers, and combined those results with publicly available hospital quality metrics and patient experience survey data.

“I am proud that Newsweek, once again, recognized the outstanding clinical care that the Barrow Neurological Institute physicians and staff provide to our patients with neurological diseases,” said Brad Racette, MD, FAAN, the Institute’s Chair of Neurology and Senior Vice President. “At Barrow, our researchers relentlessly pursue a deeper understanding of neurological disease and advance new treatments to improve the lives of our patients.”

The Barrow Difference

The Department of Neurology at Barrow includes a diverse faculty of more than 60 neurologists, with support from numerous advanced practice providers and other staff. With the recent addition of sleep medicine, neurological care at Barrow now spans 14 subspecialties. The Department is home to designated centers of excellence in multiple conditions, from common to rare. These include epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, multiple sclerosis (MS), Lewy body dementia, muscular dystrophy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), ataxia, hereditary neuropathy, and Huntington’s disease.

Because neurological care often requires a multidisciplinary approach, Barrow neurologists work closely with the Institute’s neurosurgeons, neuropsychologists, neuroradiologists, neuroscience nurses, neuro-rehabilitation clinicians, and other experts to deliver comprehensive, patient-centered care.

The neurology faculty and staff at Barrow also share a commitment to pushing the boundaries of neuroscience. They demonstrate this mission by performing clinically relevant research, training the next generation of physician-scientists, and fostering partnerships from the local to global levels.

“We are honored to be among the Newsweek America’s Best Hospitals once again,” said Barrow President and CEO Michael T. Lawton, MD. “Barrow is in the unique position to be laser-focused on neurological care, which translates to high-quality care, outstanding patient experiences, and leading expertise across the spectrum of disorders. People travel to Barrow from around the world for access to the world-class talent that we have assembled here under one roof.”
