Mark Garrett, MD, was born in Portland, Oregon, but spent most of his childhood in Denver. Dr. Garrett earned his BS in neuroscience at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, and attended medical school at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta. He went on to complete his neurosurgery residency at Barrow Neurological Institute at Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix.
While a neurosurgery resident at Barrow, Dr. Garrett completed fellowships in complex spinal disorders and stereotactic radiosurgery. He also spent time in Tanzania, Africa, where he was part of a Barrow initiative to train neurosurgeons in developing countries.
Dr. Garrett treats patients with simple and complex cranial and spinal disorders. He uses the latest surgical techniques and instrumentation and often employs minimally invasive approaches to reduce complications and recovery time. Dr. Garrett believes that fully informed patients are able to make the best possible decision in collaboration with their health care provider.
When not at work, Dr. Garrett spends his time with his wife and five children. He enjoys playing most sports, primarily basketball, which he played at the collegiate level.
