Department Promotions

Michael Robers, MD, MS

Lindsay Frerichs, MD, a neurologist in the Lewis Headache Center, and Michael Robers, MD, a neurologist in the Multiple Sclerosis Program, have been promoted from assistant to associate professors in the Department of Neurology at Barrow. They received their promotions at the Barrow Neuroscience Committee meeting in early October.

Book Publication

Ayushi Chugh, MD, FAAN, a neurologist in the Gregory W. Fulton ALS and Neuromuscular Disease Center, has co-authored and published a book to prepare readers for the electrodiagnostic medicine exams. With more than 600 practice questions and detailed answers, the independently published book covers all key topics of electrodiagnostic and neuromuscular medicine. It offers substantial practice in a format that mirrors the actual AANEM, ABPN, and ABPMR exams.

Advocate of the Year

Barrow neurology resident Tshibambe Nathanael Tshimbombu, MD, has been selected by the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) to receive the 2026 Kenneth M. Viste Jr. Patient Advocate of the Year Award. Dr. Tshimbombu was chosen based on his work in stroke on a global scale and recommendations from his colleagues. The award honors the legacy of Dr. Kenneth M. Viste Jr., a former AAN president whose lifelong commitment to patient-centered neurology, community service, and advocacy set a national standard. Dr. Tshimbombu will formally receive the award at the 2026 AAN Annual Meeting in Chicago, Illinois.

Young Investigator Award

William Knight, a research technician at the Ivy Brain Tumor Center at Barrow Neurological Institute, has received the Larry Oberley Young Investigator Award. The Society for Redox Biology and Medicine (SfRBM) presented William with the award after his oral presentation ranked among the top two scored abstracts/presentations at the 32nd Annual Conference of the SfRBM.

Barrow Retirement

Terry Fife, MD, was recruited in 1994 to join Barrow and establish the Institute’s Neuro-Otology Program. In addition to directing the Program and caring for patients, Dr. Fife served as Interim Chair of the Department of Neurology and the Institute’s inaugural designated institutional official. After more than 30 years on faculty at Barrow, he will retire on Jan. 9, 2026.
