Teaching Award

Daniel Gonzalez, MD, a vascular neurologist in the Petznick Stroke Center at Barrow, has received the Distinguished Teacher in Neurology Award from the Creighton Phoenix Campus class of 2025. This is the second consecutive year that Dr. Gonzalez has received this award, which recognizes the impact he has made on medical students during their time in medical school.

AAN Fellow

Ayushi Chugh, MD, a neuromuscular specialist in the Gregory W. Fulton ALS and Neuromuscular Disease Center at Barrow, has been elected as a fellow of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN). This designation is the highest standard of the AAN and is granted to members who make valuable contributions to the organization and the neurology community at large.

Faculty Promotions

Ruchira Jha

At the latest Barrow Neurological Institute Neuroscience Committee meeting on April 30, both Stephen T. Foldes, PhD, and Ruchira Jha, MD, MSc, received promotions. Dr. Foldes is now an associate professor, clinician-scholar track, in the Department of Neurology. Dr. Jha is a now a professor, clinician-scientist track, in the departments of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Translational Neuroscience.

ACNS Young Investigator

John Eaton, MD, a clinical neurophysiology fellow at Barrow, received the 2025 Young Investigator Award from the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society. He earned the award for his poster, “Thalamic sEEG to Characterize Seizure Propagation,” at the ACNS Annual Meeting in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Eaton’s co-authors from Barrow included neurosurgeon Andrew Yang, MD; neurologist David Harris, MD; and professor of electroneurodiagnostics Stephen Foldes, PhD. He also collaborated with Arizona State University and Creighton University.

AAN Advocacy Leadership Forum

Tshibambe Nathanael Tshimbombu, MD, an adult neurology intern at Barrow, has been accepted for the 2025 Palatucci Advocacy Leadership Forum of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN). The forum, which is scheduled for August, will provide Dr. Tshimbombu and other participants with the tools, training, and resources to advocate effectively for their patients and profession. The intensive training curriculum includes media interviews, action planning, strategic communications, and legislative training sessions.
