    About

    The Gregory W. Fulton ALS and Neuromuscular Disease Center was founded to improve both care and research for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and other neuromuscular disorders. Our ALS clinic is a model for offering complete care within a single center while providing access to advanced clinical trials and promising basic science research.

    At the Fulton Center at Barrow Neurological Institute at Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, our physicians and research scientists work with and for you to deliver the vanguard of therapy for neuromuscular diseases while simultaneously developing the treatments of the future.

    Specialty Clinics

    ALS Clinic

    We conduct a weekly ALS clinic sponsored by the Muscular Dystrophy Association and ALS Association that gives our patients access to all of the specialists they need in one visit. Patients will have access to a variety of subspecialist and allied health professionals who have years of expertise in treating patients with ALS. Specialists on our team include:

    • Physical and occupational therapists
    • Dieticians
    • Speech therapists
    • Respiratory therapists
    • Social workers
    • Mobility specialists

    This team approach allows us to give you a detailed, personalized treatment plan focused on maximizing quality of life. During visits, patients will also have the opportunity to participate in a variety of cutting edge research trials or projects, many of which are not available elsewhere.

    Muscular Dystrophy Clinic

    Our Muscular Dystrophy Association-sponsored clinic is held weekly and provides care for people with neuromuscular disorders, including but not limited to:

    • Many types of muscular dystrophy
    • Hereditary neuropathies
    • Autoimmune neuromuscular disorders

    As a patient at our clinic, you will have access to a team of providers that includes:

    • Board-certified neuromuscular medicine neurologists
    • Physical and occupational therapists
    • Dieticians
    • Speech therapists
    • Respiratory therapists
    • Social worker
    • Mobility specialists

    Myasthenia Gravis Clinic

    Our myasthenia gravis clinic is held weekly and caters to people with active myasthenia gravis. We believe people with myasthenia gravis are best served by consulting with neurologists with expertise in diagnosis and treatment of the disease, and our myasthenia gravis specialists work with patients to tailor a treatment plan specific to each person’s needs and preferences.

    All currently available treatments are offered through this clinic, including:

    • Immunosuppressant medications
    • Plasmapheresis
    • Thymectomy
    • IVIg infusions

    Our neurologists work closely with thoracic surgeons to offer robotic and traditional open thymectomy in appropriate patients.
